first_imgIberia will offer a premium economy product on its long-haul fleet from next year in a move that brings the Spanish airline’s widebody cabin configuration in line with the other IAG airlines flying long-haul. The first premium economy-equipped Iberia aircraft will enter service next summer on routes connecting the airline’s Madrid hub to Chicago O’Hare in the U.S. and to Buenos Aires, Bogota and Lima in South America. The oneworld carrier said it will offer premium economy class on 37 of its long-haul aircraft. It will retrofit eight of its current Airbus A330-300s and 13 of its A340-600s with the new seats, while its 16 new Airbus A350-900s will come factory-equipped with the new cabin. Delivery of the A350s will begin in 2018. The remodeling of its to A330s and A3430 will take place next year and in 2018.Iberia did not specify how many premium economy seats it intends to install on its aircraft but said the seats would be 19 inches wide with a 37-inch seat pitch between rows, compared to 17- or 18.1-inch width and 31 to 32-inch seat pitch on its A330/ A340s in standard economy.  Seat-back entertainment screens will be 13 inches wide, as opposed to the 9-inch screens in standard coach. Iberia says the new seats recline by an additional 40 per cent over those in its standard economy cabin.Customers flying in premium economy class, or turista premium, will also enjoy adjustable head and foot rests, get noise-cancelling earphones, a blanket and an amenities kit. In addition, premium economy passengers will have priority in boarding and leaving the aircraft, better food options and an increased baggage allowance.Iberia may be one of the last European legacy carriers to introduce a premium economy, but it will be the only airline with the concept flying between Spain and Latin America, according to its  Chief Commercial Director Marco Sansavini.“Iberia is the sole airline that will offer this intermediate seating class on direct flights between Spain and Latin America, which should strengthen our leadership of this market,” he said.Virgin Atlantic was the first airline to come up with the concept of a premium economy class in 1992 as Mid Class, a service aimed at the cost-conscious business traveler who travelled economy but still required extra space in which to work or relax. The product was rebranded as Premium Economy in November, 1994.Premium economy is well established with full-service international carriers in Europe and Asia, but it is rare in the Middle East and U.S. legacy airlines are only now jumping on the trend.American Airlines, a partner of Iberia in the oneworld alliance, will introduce premium economy on its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft with cabins featuring 21 leather seats with a 38-inch pitch and an increased width with a 2-3-2 arrangement. Premium economy passengers receive priority check-in and boarding, enhanced meals with complimentary wine, beer and spirits and amenity kits. The airline’s first 787-9 was delivered Sept. 13 and it will have four by the end of the year, from an order for 22. But it will only start selling a seat in premium economy from early 2017.Delta Air Lines will introduce premium economy when it takes delivery of its first Airbus A350,  due in Spring next year.last_img read more

first_imgDon’t miss out on the latest news and information. Panelo: Duterte ‘angry’ with SEA Games hosting hassles Another quality which people believe puts Harden in a league of his own is his ability to adjust to any defense and figure out ways to play around it. The Jazz tried several tactics to try and corral Harden in their first round series with Houston, but he still averaged 27.8 points as the Rockets won in five games.“He’s like artificial intelligence,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder said during the series. “His ability to dissect and recognize different situations, particularly spacing, and they do a great job with him.”Though Harden led Houston in scoring in every game in the first round, he didn’t shoot particularly well in the series, especially in Game 3 when he set an NBA playoff record by missing his first 15 shots. If the Rockets hope to finally knock off the Warriors in the postseason this year they know that Harden will need to continue that improvement D’Antoni raved about. Houston has been eliminated in the playoffs by Golden State in three of the last four seasons including last year in the Western Conference finals.“You’re never satisfied, you never get too comfortable,” Harden said. “I watch film, I’m in the gym. I work on my conditioning. I study moves. I try new moves I just don’t do the normal.”Harden isn’t simply trying to be the best player in the game today. He’s focused on leaving his mark as one of the best the league has ever seen.“That’s one of the things you dream of when you’re a little kid on the playground outside, to be one of the best basketball players ever,” he said. “So that’s what I strive for and that’s what I’ll continue to go (after) until I retire.”A boost to that legacy would be to help Houston win its first title since 1995. Though Harden won’t look too far ahead, he knows that great players are often judged on how they perform in the playoffs and he’s determined to do all he can to get the Rockets past the Warriors and give them a shot at that elusive championship.“It’s very important,” he said. “Obviously, championships are important. But I’m just taking it one game at a time. That’s all I worry about. I let everything fall in place where it needs to be.” PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games PLAY LIST 02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss Chiefs owner ‘deeply disturbed’ by Tyreek Hill allegations MOST READ Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next View comments Duterte wants probe of SEA Games mess LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 21: James Harden #13 of the Houston Rockets reacts in front of Mike D’Antoni as he fouls out during a 111-106 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center on February 21, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. And those numbers don’t even take into account how much he’s improved on defense and the skill with which he uses his step back 3-pointer.Never lacking in confidence, Harden wasn’t surprised that D’Antoni’s thought he could be called the league’s most improved player a year after winning MVP.“It’s true,” he said. “Every year I try to come back better. I try to come back and find ways to be more impactful than I was the year before and I think I was this year. And hopefully next year it will be the same thing. To try to go up as high as I can until I’m done.”Some criticize Harden’s game because they believe he relies too heavily on drawing fouls and piling up chunks of his points at the free throw line. The Rockets scoff at that notion and even one of the Warriors disputed that theory.“He can do everything,” said Golden State’s Kevin Durant said, a former teammate in Oklahoma City. “If you’re not focused, he can drive past you, hit you with the shoulder because he’s strong, finish with either hand. He’s shooting floaters now. Obviously the step back 3-pointer is one of his staples, but I never really believed he was just a free throw guy. He can score in a variety of ways.”ADVERTISEMENT Private companies step in to help SEA Games hosting SEA Games hosting troubles anger Duterte Cayetano: Senate, Drilon to be blamed for SEA Games mess Hontiveros presses for security audit of national power grid LATEST STORIESlast_img read more

first_img JUTC is slated to roll out several initiatives over the next few months JUTC representatives will also be interacting more with the public by attending fora Story Highlights The initiatives form part of the company’s renewed efforts to deliver improved services to its clients The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is slated to roll out several initiatives over the next few months, which are aimed at improving the quality of service provided to passengers travelling on its buses. These include: training of staff in customer service; phased implementation of the cashless fare system; increasing the number of buses in operation; and introducing the new ‘Park and Ride’ service in Portmore, St. Catherine, come September.Speaking at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank session at the agency’s head office, Half-Way-Tree Road, Kingston, on Wednesday, August 21, the JUTC’s newly appointed Managing Director, Colin Campbell, said the initiatives form part of the company’s renewed efforts to deliver improved services to its clients.“We intend to do some tweaking of the company’s customer service activities. We intend to be a more courteous company. We intend to have our commuters in mind a little more,” he assured.Mr. Campbell said JUTC representatives will also be interacting more with the public by attending fora, such as parish council meetings, to hear the views and opinions on the services being offered. Those occasions, he added, will also be used to promote the JUTC’s services as a viable travelling option.“We will be one of the service providers who regularly attend Parish Council meetings to be able to get feedback from the people’s representatives,” he said.Additionally, Mr. Campbell said the JUTC will be establishing a commuter committee through which the company can get direct feedback from commuters. He assured that the committee will contribute to ensuring “improved services and better activities on the part of the JUTC, both in terms of service (delivery) and the level of courtesy that they (commuters) experience on the ride.”The JUTC’s Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Kirk Finnikin, said the company will also continue to retrain and monitor the progress of drivers currently benefitting from refresher programmes.“We recognize that training of our staff is critical. We have gotten feedback from our commuting public that customer service needs some improving and our training team at the JUTC has been taking this quite seriously,” he said, while advising that a training programme is currently underway for route inspectors.“They will know what it is to restore service and engage customers, even sharing what may come across as disappointing news when your bus is either delayed or has to be rescheduled,” he explained. To eliminate the problem of buses not being adequately utilized or dispatched at particular times of the day, Mr. Finnikin said a Road Management Unit has been introduced to maximise the daily use of drivers and buses and “to move as many commuters where the demand may slightly deviate on a particular day from what the plan is.”He said in situations where extra buses are required on a particular route, the unit will be responsible for rerouting and rescheduling buses in order to maintain adequate service in the affected areas.last_img read more
