One Saturday morning in April, Bertha Smith, Knight High School coordinator of volunteers, on behalf of the Antelope Valley Union High School District, honored the KHS volunteers at their annual awards breakfast. This event was held at the Cascades Restaurant in Palmdale. This is only one way of expressing our appreciation to our volunteers. Additionally, we want to show our volunteers how much they are truly valued and appreciated for assisting faculty and staff with helping our students to achieve academic excellence. The keynote speaker was Jim Ledford Jr., mayor of Palmdale. Entertainers were Rocko the Magician from Burbank. In addition, Kathleen Edwards sang a solo of “The Greatest Love.” There were approximately 70 guests in attendance. Volunteers received certificates and special service awards for outstanding service to the volunteer program. Patricia Franco, Kathleen Edwards, Eleonor Abrego and Frances Banks-Donatto were recipients of the special service awards. Volunteers of the Month were also honored with special certificates and pins.
