first_imgThe king of the super flyweights is returning to his home country to fight. It was announced Wednesday that WBC titlist Juan Francisco Estrada will defend his belt for the first time against Dewayne Beamon on Aug. 24 at Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico. The fight will air live and exclusively on DAZN. The fight will be Estrada’s debut bout on the streaming service after he signed a multifight deal with Matchroom Boxing at the end of June. Estrada (39-3 26 KOs), a former unified flyweight champion, became a two-division world champion and put himself among boxing’s elite in April when he defeated Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by unanimous decision and avenged his narrow majority decision loss to the Thai star in February 2018. Estrada outboxed Rungvisai in the early going and then held off a late surge from the former champion.Beamon (16-1-1, 11 KOs) is no stranger to fighting in enemy territory; his last six contests have taken place south of the border. He is 4-1-1 in those fights. The 33-year-old plans on making the most of his first crack at championship gold.“I’m very excited for getting this world title shot against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world,” Beamon said in the same release. “It will be a memorable fight, and I will surprise everyone on August 24 and accomplish my dream of being a world champion.” The chance to fight in Mexico for the first time since March 2017 and make his first title defense in front of his countrymen means a lot to him.”Thank God, [through] my talent, effort and discipline, I’ve accomplished a lot of dreams that I had as a kid,” Estrada said in a press release. “Now my objective is to defend my title in Hermosillo and break an attendance record of 10,000 persons in CUM (Centro de Usos Múltiples) that exists since 1991 in a fight of Maromero Páez vs. ‘Cocas’ Ramírez. “We have a risky defense against the American, Dewayne Beamon, he is fast of hands and has a front style, but that is good to provide a great fight to all the fans in the world.”Join DAZN to watch Estrada vs. Beamon and 100+ fight nights a yearlast_img read more
