Austin’s Ashley Kriesel are the Southland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.Crutchmer pushed the Bears (11-5) to a 4-1 record last week, accounting for 10 runs and 10 hits on 12 appearances for a stellar .833 batting average. The senior also turned in four RBI and five stolen bases as each of UCA’s four victories came by at least a nine-run margin. Crutchmer’s weekly award marks the first of her career and the third of the season for Central Arkansas.Kriesel posted a flawless 3-0 week for the Ladyjacks (10-4), who took home a 4-1 record from the Mardi Gras Classic in Mobile, Ala., last week. The senior delivered in 16 innings, including one complete-game 4-0 victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday. Kriesel fanned 24 batters across three games for the ‘Jacks, while holding her opposition to a .111 batting average.Softball Hitter of the Week – Kayla Crutchmer, Central Arkansas – OF – Sr. – Tulsa, Okla.Crutchmer led UCA with 10 hits over a four-day span to push the Bears to an 11-5 overall record this season. The Tulsa, Okla., product also notched an impressive 10 runs, while driving in four RBI in the Bears’ five contests. In addition to her .876 on-base percentage, Crutchmer was also a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen-base attempts. She allowed just six hits and three earned runs, striking out 24 batters in total. In her sterling effort against South Alabama to close out the tournament Sunday, she not only no-hit the Jaguars for five innings, she also drove in the winning runs with a two-run homer to kick off the Ladyjacks’ 9-0 victory. Kriesel’s five innings of work against South Alabama on Sunday paved the way for freshman Katie Hartwell to complete the no-hit bid as the Ladyjacks combined to shut out the Jaguars. The senior righty closed out the week holding opponents to a .111 batting average with a 1.69 earned-run average.Honorable Mention: Saleen Flores, McNeese; Jensen Howell, Northwestern State; MC Comeaux, Southeastern Louisiana.Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. first_imgLisa OrsiThe father of Lisa Orsi has paid tribute to her as he prepares to lay her to rest.Lisa will be buried on the Fanad peninsula in Co Donegal later on Friday in a graveyard overlooking Mulroy Bay.Her grandparents are from Fanad. The 22-year-old was pronounced dead last Friday in Singapore, with organ donations set to help up to 50 others to live.The physiotherapist fell into a coma after collapsing on a trekking holiday to Indonesia. She had suffered from a rare form of altitude sickness.Her mum Lisa and dad Dennis have organised a private Mass in Derry today.“Lisa was one in a million, she was a star,” said Dennis, “I was very proud, we were both very proud of Lisa. She just affected everybody she ever met.” Lisa was passionate about organ donation and he said that’s why they went ahead with the operation.“It was very difficult. Lisa went for a live donation, Lisa left us from the hospital ward in the same state as we’d spent the previous 16 or 17 days with her.“She was in exactly the same condition when she left us and went to theatre. We said our goodbyes, walked to the theatre and basically, that was it and she came back to us and she’d passed on. It was a very difficult day.”Mum Sharon said: “Lisa loved life and loved living and she lived it to the full. We were so proud that she did that and happy that we have those memories – that she was happy doing that.“Even though she has been taken away from us – there has been so many other people have gained maybe their children’s lives or their husband’s or wife’s.
